“BE” CAUSE AND EFFECT
Several years ago, I enjoyed watching a television program, called “The Adventures of Briscoe County Jr.” This hour-long program was a western that was part drama and part comedy.
At the end of a particular episode, Briscoe and his side-kick, Bowler, were riding off into the sunset after successfully completing their adventure of the week. As they rode, Briscoe said to his friend, “Bowler, I’m finding out that the more I learn, the less I know.” Bowler replied, “I know what you’re talking about Briscoe, and at the rate we’re going, we’re going to know nothing in no time.”

my course with the
Unfortunately, with each successive class, I’m given another “sofa” to squeeze in (somehow) next to or on top of the other dozen or so already there.
Therefore, I take comfort and courage in the Biblical application of one concept the College stresses in one of their (many) “tools” for measuring data. This particular tool pertains to a rational (and often necessary) process to determine the “Cause and Effect” of an issue or process.
My favorite passage of Scripture in the Old Testament of the Bible is Psalm 19:7-11. In verses 7 through 9 of the passage, David, the shepherd boy who defeated a giant and later became the statesman king of Israel, outlines a “Cause and Effect” that aids, empowers, and soothes me like nothing else, every single time I hear or meditate upon it.
Allow me to expound on the passage using “Be” Cause and Effect, in place of “Cause and Effect.” I’ll do it this way because the passage extols a portion of the attributes of the One who brought the world into existence, simply by saying, “Let there “Be…”
“Be” Cause the Law (Word, Commandment, Counsel) of the Lord is perfect, (Effect) it restores man’s soul.
“Be” Cause the Testimony (Reputation, Validation, Veracity) of the Lord is certain, (Effect) it makes man’s simple-ness become wisdom.
“Be” Cause the Statutes (Activities, Accomplishments, Initiatives) of the Lord are without error, (Effect) they bring joy to man’s heart.
“Be” Cause the Commandments (Directives, Imperatives, Regulatory Requirements) of the Lord are fully understandable, (Effect) they illuminates man’s insight.
“Be” Cause the Reverence (Acknowledgment, Praise and Worship) of the Lord is immaculate, (Effect) it lasts forever.
“Be” Cause the Judgments (Determinations, Pronouncements, Renderings) of the Lord are truthful, (Effect) they are totally right altogether.
David goes on to proclaim in verse 10 that these “Be” Causes are to be desired more than gold…even the best gold imaginable, and they are sweeter than the pure, untainted, (un-homogenized and un-pasteurized) honey that can be found exclusively in a honeycomb.
The king closes this section of wonder (verse 11) by stating that these “Be” Causes are a collective and complete correction to all who hear them, and in obeying them (Effect), there is great (immeasurable) reward.
Think about that…especially if your life (or mind) seems overloaded.
You’ll be so glad for this most excellent and wonderful “Be” Cause and Effect.
