CAN YOU HEAR HIM NOW? Paul Schneidmill
Thanks to the wonderful
teaching I’m receiving during my current attendance at the Not surprisingly, my primary
method happens to be auditory. Visual
comes across the finish line in a close second, and kinesthetic finishes the
race in third. Even though this
determination about me comes from an “assessment” that is by no means “set in
stone,” I agree that I “hear” things much better than any other manner when it
comes to receiving knowledge and understanding.
In some instances, I will
ask to be shown how to do something, or be given an illustration so I can “see”
what’s being communicated for learning purposes; and last but
not least (sort of), I may need to experience or rely upon a “feeling”
to gain understanding of a concern; but for the most part, I “hear” stuff. No set order of these
learning preferences can be categorized as better than another; it all depends
on the individual’s preference, provided they are capable of utilizing all
three (i.e., blindness and deafness would be detractors from the process, but I
believe all people are capable of “feeling”). God desires that all three be employed in order that man might learn about Him. He asks us to hear and
listen to Him (Deuteronomy
6:4;12:28,
Proverbs
4:1, 10,
Isaiah
66:5, Jeremiah
22:29, Ezekiel
37:4, Matthew
15:10, Exodus
15:26, Proverbs
7:24, 8:32,
Isaiah
51:1, 7). He asks us look for and seek
Him (Isaiah
45:22, Luke
21:38, 2
Corinthians 4:18, Philippians
3:20, Hebrews
9:28, 2
Peter 3:13, 1
Chronicles 16:11, 2
Chronicles 7:14, Psalm
27:8; 105:4,
Isaiah
55:6, Matthew
6:33). He asks us to have faith and
trust in Him (Mark
11:22, Romans
3:22, 5:2,
Psalm
37:3; 40:4;
62:8;
115:11,
Proverbs
3:5). The latter two (faith and
trust) are the vehicles with which we are able to sense God, especially during
times when we unable to “hear” or “see” Him.
However, consider with me briefly the Biblical emphasis God places on the
necessity for us (His creation) to “hear Him. To love and serve God, we
must obey Him (John
14:15, 23). To obey Him, we must believe in Him, and
according to Romans
10:14, we must “hear” Him if we are to believe in Him. No matter what way you may
prefer to learn, perceive, receive and respond to understanding, make sure you
“hear” the Word of God. Because I have “heard” and
do “hear” Him, I can “see” Him and “feel” Him by faith! God wants us to “hear”
Him. In Isaiah
28:23, He stresses that four times. Can you hear Him now? Paul Schneidmill © Copyright
